In Their Skin (2012)

In Their Skin (2012)
(Jeremy Power Regimbal)

The Hughes decides for a vacation in their isolated cottage on the countryside for an attempt to get the pieces together after the death of their daughter. Soon a mysterious family shows up and becomes quite intrusive. After they kick them out a nightmare begins they will never forget, if they survive.

Another entertaining, exciting terror movie that kept me awake throughout and a good directorial debut of Jeremy Power Regimbal . What caught my interest in this creeping chiller was that it kicks of right away with a few mysterious events and by the strange family that prompt invite themselves for a dinner. Who are they? What do they want? At this point you start to imagine the plot but because of the title I was fooled.

All the actors are doing great performances, even the dog Harris. What a name for a dog, can it been inspired by Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)? Who knows, if I get a dog someday I might name him Harris just because I´m a Maiden fan. Enough of that and lets get back to the movie.

The movie is based on suspense without any buckets of blood. These types of movies do not need blood and gore because the survival of the family gives you all you need. One scene to mention is the forced sex scene that comes as a surprise. I cannot say it´s big blockbuster but a good one a late night but don´t forget to lock your door.

If anyone understands the ending please leave a comment. I have my thought but I can´t get it to work.

And Soon The Darkness (2011)

And Soon The Darkness (2011)
(Marcos Efron)

Two girls Stephanie & Ellie are on a bike trip in Argentina decide to take their own route and leave the rest of the group for have some fun. They end up in a small rural village but after some fuss they get separated for a while and when Stephanie decides to get back to Ellie she is gone. It´s something fishy about the village and she have to find her friend before it´s too late.
This is the typical “girl missing in wasteland” but a good one, not the best but good enough. The movie opens fantastic with a dirty girl tied up and tortured with electric shocks. I suppose that many of us horror geeks love those kinds of scenes, I do. After this scene the movie is quite slow moving, it takes some time before hell breaks loose on a good level. Instead we have to follow the girls on their enjoyable trip messing up with a poor guy in a bar. It looks like Ellie want to get laid and act very sexy and inviting. She meets Calvo and starts to “snog” with him but when she decides to drop him he gets angry and frustrated. I totally understand him, I had reacted the same.
Most of the movie is quite predictable but in some cases I got a bit surprised. Some people are involved in this terror drama but who is the bad guys? Calvo, the lazy police officer, the mystic white guy or what about the couple who runs the hotel? I will not tell you but I suppose you have a your thoughts. I had but not all the way…
I would gladly see more sleaze as Ellie is really bitchy and good looking, no boobs, no fucking, just an attempt to rape Ellie and she definitely deserves it (in the move of course). I enjoyed the movie anyway but maybe because I expected more of torture, rape & death. I you want this, skip this movie. If you want a mediocre entertaining flick a late evening it´s ok. Do not expect too much violence.
This is Marcos Efron first feature film and not a bad one so let’s see what he can come up with in the future.
3 of 5 horrophobic score.

Evidence (2011)

Evidence (2011)
(Howie Askins)
Ryan takes his friend Brett and their girlfriends into the wilderness to shoot a documentary about their camping. Once they have turned up the tents they begins hearing a strange roar and sees a mysterious figure who scare the shit out of them but Ryan is determined to continue filming his documentary and able to convince them to stay at least another night. It is clearly the worst decision any of them have made throughout their lives and fatal.
Ever since Blair Witch Project and movies like Cloverfield, [REC] and Paranormal Activity, I have become a bit fond of shaky documentary or Found Footage inspired movies. Ryan teasing them insane with his constant filming and that's quite entertaining, especially when all hell breaks loose. Feel at times, the camera is a bit too shaky and it becomes difficult to navigate or see what really happens on screen, but I suppose that's who if looks when you are running around with a camera. The film begins gently and softly with a pleasant stroll up to the point where they decide to camp. After seeing the strange figure that looks like a monkey I start to wonder, what the hell is going on? It's a horror movie after all and it feels a bit too easily with a madman in monkey-costume who runs around and kills them in the best slasher fashion, but you never know. It takes a while for the truth about what is happening in this part of the wilderness are revealed, but when it happens, you will be totally confused and even more puzzled. What the hell is going on? Where the hell are they now?
The structure of the story is made in a good way and the heart-stopping tension is increased during the film and ends in an inferno of panic. Ryan McCoy also played Ryan in the movie has written and produced and done quite well. All the actors are relatively new in the film industry but they are all doing a good acting that we will surely see more of in the future. If you like documentary style films you should take your time and look through this a dark night or on your iPad while camping. I suppose not everyone will appreciate the story when the resolution is reviled. It's pretty sparse on special effects, but it does not feel like something you should bother too much about. What I like about this movie is the scary mystery that hides in the wilderness and the creeping suspense makes the movie for what it is.

Axed (2012)

Axed (2012)
Ryan Lee Driscoll
“A new work has to be done”
The world is in crisis with huge unemployment and this also affects Kurt Wendell who loses his job. He does not have the guts to tell this to his family. He has planned a trip out to the country to tell this horrific news for the family. Everyone thinks it will be a nice weekend but soon they understand that Kurt has other plans for the trip.
I absolutely love this movie and it feels good in time because Europe and so even Sweden is affected by bad economy. I myself have been fired from my job and probably soon unemployed for a while. So does this movie even more relevant in its story and therefore more enjoyable to watch. Of course most of you who have been in this situation know the bitterness of being forced to leave your job when you have sacrificed almost your entire life in the company you worked for.
Ryan Lee Driscoll, who also wrote the screenplay have done it in a brilliant way with a family with wonderful characters. Jay as Kurt despises because he is a real wimp who gets beaten up at school, the sexy and challenged daughter Megan who he regards as a slut, and finally the mother of the family Wendell as he accuses to be a whore after fucking his former boss.  The boss also gets his piece of Kurts rage. All the actors do a fantastic job and are forced to try to find a solution to escape the trap they are in. Kurt is fairly well prepared so it will not be an easy task. It's a pretty straightforward and simple story but he has captured persons acting in a natural and believable way. The film could easily get a faster end by killing the father who is quite insane, but it is not so damn easy to just kill someone. That's why the movie feels realistic, all the frightened family members get several opportunities to put an end to this nightmare but they cannot force themselves to do that. They try to talk themselves out of the situation or hoping that he will get his common sense back.
Kurt has decided that the best for the family is put an end to everything for everyone. It is delightful to follow the coward Jay who is forced to get some balls in order to save what can be saved. Suppose that there are better ways to get more confidence.
The effects are quite few but with some violence and suspense at the highest level so I give this film a top rating.

Petter Baiestorf Part 3

”The Crazy World of Petter Baiestorf” Part 3

Vadias do SexoSangrento

"Vadias do SexoSangrento" tells the story of Tura (Ljana Carrion) and Mirza (Lane ABC) which are two lesbians fleeing Russ (PC), ex-boyfriend of Tura. After fighting the love triangle, lesbians cross paths with Esquisito (Coffin Souza), a vegetarian who was raped by 48 priests, and all end in an orgy of blood.

"Vadias do SexoSangrento" is radical experimentalism (continuing the book "Manifesto Canibal" written by me and Coffin Souza), which explores the possibilities for the possible cinematic storytelling with the narrator / author of the film "tricking" the film's audience.

"Vadias do SexoSangrento" is a romantic comedy than the legendary George Kuchar, to assist him, said: "Baiestorf Have a wild and free spirit."

In the beginning of the movie it shows a close-up of a woman's pussy, and soon she starts fondling her wet horny pussy with one of her hands, and this is both pleasant and a bit repulsive. The film has much nudity and is quite sexy at times but all the blood and obscure scenes ruin the sense of the erotic in the film. Of all movies I've seen so far, this is clearly the dirtiest of them all and I get the feeling that Petter potentially could make a damn good porn movie with an entertaining story.

Tomas Larsson: Have you done any porn or have you ever considered making someone in the future?

PetterBaiestorf: In 1998 I made a tasteless feature porn and had a pretty big financial loss with my eschatological gore porn that featured, among other things, masturbation stuffed with chicken feet, anal sex with lighted candles, sexual wounds, etc. My dream was to mix politics with explicit sex and religious criticism, but there is no audience for this kind of movies. I learned this in practice! This extreme porn called "SacanagensBestiais dos ArcanjosFálicos" and not screened and yet unfortunately still unpublished on DVD. Porn conventional does not interest me; I'm a big fan of porn obscure things like "Hardgore" or "Thundercrack." In 1998 I also wrote and directed the feature film "Gore Gore Gays", which featured some explicit sex scenes. With " Vadias do SexoSangrento" would not make an erotic film, but give continuity to the kind of fun movies that were made in Brazil in 1980. Sure overreacted a little bit! Currently not meeting investors and developers interested in making sexually explicit gore movies, so I'm doing some movies more normal, but still come back to make more movies involving with wild, crazed dirty porn and politics.

I get the feeling that your movies are always symbolic and have an underlying message that you want to tell in your very special way.In Vadias do SexoSangrento it feels like you want to show that we men are real assholes and carries the major reason that our wives or girlfriends leave us.We rape and violate us against the other sex ruthlessly because our sexual instincts which some men cannot control.

The movie portrays in clarity that we sometimes cannot accept when our beloved once leaves us for another, but quite often we probably deserve it because of our brusque behavior. In this case, Tura leavingher boyfriend and if that's not enough, she does it with another woman. This annoys and exasperates Russ to such a degree that he decides to kill Kelly. Every year we see similar cases in real life that exactly follows this pattern. You describe this in your very special way, all men take their opportunity to rape and torture all the women in the flick, but youdo it in a way that makes me think that we men are one son of a bitch. Youshow that we men are in fact the weak sex and have to resort to violence to assert themselves.

PB: Yes, "Vadias do Sexo Sangrento" is about sexism, about the uncontrollable primal instinct of sex. Brazil is essentially sexist society, usually Brazilian men think they are "owners" of their wives or girlfriends and wanted to talk about it in the short course of my exaggerated way of addressing more serious issues. Many men dominate women here with money, when they cannot control them with money they use violence, sexual and physical. I have great respect for women, I admire their strength and weakness! And I think all of us, men, pathetic! In the movie all the male characters are stupid and brutal, including the narrator of the film, the end of everything, rapes the female characters. Of course not all men are like this, but if you study the history of the world you will find thousands of examples of violence against women. And worst of all is that many women accept that! I think tragic to think that women are religious, religions worldwide have prejudices against women, by logic women should abhor these religions sexist. The world society is sexist, I think women should open their eyes, and mind, and strive for a libertarian society, I think disgusting when I hear screaming feminists who want equality and equality means that women are soldiers and go to war, for example!

TL: Aside from all the nice nudity, you have some breathtaking scenes. The scene where a woman puts her fist in a guy´s ass and pulls out the intestine is a bit special. How did you get this idea?

PB: My grotesque sense of humor told me: “Kill a sexist by pulling his guts out throughout the ass!" And so I did to the sound of Sponge bob Square pants to get even more insane! It was extremely fun filming this scene, Coffin Souza and Carli Bortolzanza, who are short of gore makeup, and they were quite embarrassed about actor’s ass makeup. "Vadias do Sexo Sangrento" was shot in just five days, with a chill of about 10 degrees and all actors/actresses were naked. Of all movies I have done so far this set was the quietest one. I was fortunate to work with a wonderful staff that identified themselves with the script and gave so much of themselves for the movie to stay fun!

Another part of the movie I like is the crazy guy who collects vaginas. Really disgusting, but with a great sense of humor, if you like that sort of obscure madness and can see the fun in it. The sum of the whole flick is that we get a nasty combination of odd, disgusting episodes, mixed with some dirty sexy scenes, but also a lot of humor. Petter has definitely opened new doors with his unique filmmaking.

Stay tuned, more to come in next part in this series about Better Baiestorf.
